How payment works
When the money actually moves depends on how you booked.
If you reserve ahead
Your card is charged the rental fee in full when you book — before anyone has approved the reservation. This is not a hold. If the reservation is declined or you cancel in time, you are refunded in full.
If you walk up
Your card is authorised for the rental fee when you set the rental up in the app, and charged once your return has been checked. An authorisation is a hold: your bank sets the money aside, but it has not come to us.
The deposit, either way
A separate security deposit hold is placed — when you arrive for a reservation, or at check-out for a walk-up. It is always a hold, never a charge. See the deposit hold.
When the rental fee is settled
For a walk-up, when your return is approved — someone compares your photos, which may be a while after you hand the ATV back. Handing it back does not by itself move any money.
For a reservation there is nothing left to settle; it was paid at booking.
Charges after your ride
Staff can charge the card on file after you have gone — for late days, or for damage the deposit did not cover. Someone decides to do that; it is never automatic, and you are notified of the amount and the reason. What you owe, and on what terms, is set by the rental agreement.
Long rentals
A hold does not last indefinitely — the limit is seven days. On a rental longer than that, the hold is replaced about six days in: the old one is released and a new one placed. Because a released hold can take a few days to clear at your bank, you may briefly see both. Nothing is charged twice; a hold is not a charge.
We never see your card number
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your full card number is never sent to us and we do not store it. The privacy policy covers what is shared.
Your bank decides how quickly a hold clears
Releasing a hold is immediate on our side. How long it then takes to disappear from your statement is between you and your bank, and is not something we can speed up.
This article explains how the process works. What you owe, and on what terms, is set by the rental agreement — the copy you signed is what governs your rental.
